The H. G. Hotchkiss Essential Oil Museum is both the first and last place of the industry that made Lyons famous world-wide. The museum displays original furniture and implements of the process of refining oil that farmers distilled in the field and brought to the Hotchkiss to be filtered and purified. A tour of the building tells the story of the Hiram and Leman Hotchkiss brothers and the relationship between the Erie Canal and the business of making peppermint oil.
