Located in an 1800s bank, the museum tells the history of the county from the earliest days of settlement by Native Americans through the end of the 20th century.  You can explore important events from the county’s past through objects, historic images and hands-on interactives, related to Native Americans, Underground Railroad, Elmira Civil War Prison Camp, and more. Among the permanent exhibit is a Mark Twain section, devoted to the private life of the author during the 20+ years he penned his classics while summering at the home of his in-laws.
