Website

Elmira’s Civil War history spans the entire war, from 1861-1865, first as a training camp for over 20,000 Union soldiers, and then as a POW Camp for roughly 12,000 Confederates. One barrack was disassembled and stored after the war and has now been reconstructed on its original site, and additional buildings have been constructed based on photos. The museum provides a chance to glimpse this significant time in history.
