Several Woman-Owned Places to Stay in the Finger Lakes Embrace History and Luxury

34 State Historic Luxury Suites — Skaneateles, NY

Nestled in the beautiful village of Skaneateles sits the historic home of one of the village’s founders. Many years later, that home is now the location of a beautiful bed and breakfast, 34 State Historic Luxury Suites. Owned by Kathryn Hess, the inn is the epitome of history and elegance. 34 State features artwork from famous former artist John D. Barrow alongside designer touches. Guests of the suites can enjoy complimentary breakfast and may even bring along their pets in the pet-friendly suites.

The Cabins at Buttonwood Grove Winery — Romulus, NY

After a long day – or weekend – of wine tasting in the Finger Lakes, cozy up in a cabin located right at one of the wineries. Buttonwood Grove Winery has a handle of beautiful cabins with rustic decor yet modern amenities. Each of the three cabins is named after one of the Finger Lakes’ most popular wine styles and has views of both the vineyards and Cayuga Lake.

Ellwanger Estate B&B — Rochester, NY

Twenty years ago, the Ellwanger Estate alongside the Ellwanger Gardens in Rochester was in great disrepair. That was until it was discovered by United States Air Force veteran Rosemary Janofsky. Rosemary envisioned the beauty that this historic home could have once again and spent years bringing it back to life. Now the Ellwanger Estate Bed & Breakfast has 4 spacious guest rooms, each with their own theme, as well as a wrap-around veranda surrounded by acres of gardens and greenhouses.

The Naples Hotel — Naples, NY

In the heart of the valley of Naples, New York is the charming Naples Hotel. Charming, yet a little spooky. Built in the 1800s, the hotel has had its fair share of unexplainable occurrences, experienced by both guests and staff over its 200+ years of history. Current owners Destiny & Tom Salviski purchased the property in 2020, and have embraced the haunted history of the hotel. Over the past few years, the couple has also adorned the rooms with a modern elegance that pays homage to its historical nature. The first floor is home to a restaurant and taproom, featuring multiple dining rooms decorated in the different historical eras that the hotel has experienced.

Springside Inn — Auburn, NY

It is no secret that Harriet Tubman called Auburn home and carried on her duties as a conductor of the Underground Railroad in the region. But you may not know that Springside Inn and the thick woods surrounding it were also storied to have hid those on their way to freedom. At the time, the farm located along the shores of Owasco Lake was serving as a schoolhouse. Later it became a private residence before becoming a hotel welcoming guests. Today owners Beth and Sean Lattimore maintain the home’s history through the 7-room inn and accompanying restaurant, serving as both a wedding and events venue and a Finger Lakes retreat.
